My daughter attends there and from what she has told me it's a pretty lukewarm CoE place. I did attend an open evening where I checked their biology textbooks to make sure there was no hokey creationism nonsense creeping in!! It would be good for a DH rep to be invited to speak at an ordinary RE lesson - from what Terry said it looks as if he was talking to students who had never encountered humanism as an ethical position which is sad and concerning. The only meeting left before the early booking discount deadline is this Saturday's 'Animal Rights' presentation). Please make cheques payable to 'Dorset Humanists'.

2) Email David Warden at chairman@dorsethumanists.co.uk and request our bank details to arrange a BACS payment.

3) Phone David Warden on 07910 886629 for BACS details

4) Contact us via the contact form on this page for our BACS details

5) Contact us in one the above ways and request a mailing address to post a cheque. This address will be either Simon's or David's home address, (hence why I'm not posting them publicly).

Up until now, we've just been taking bookings at our meetings, but all the above methods should be fine.

Dave E.https://www.blogger.com/profile/12233136205145608001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4405247121538604187.post-73558520043259809682014-09-10T17:42:23.476+01:002014-09-10T17:42:23.476+01:00I am definitely interested. Objective morals are distinguished from absolute morals. "Absolute" means a moral value always holds regardless of the situation, such as that lying is always wrong even in situations where we might think it is right. "Objective" means that moral values hold regardless of what anyone thinks, so for instance the Holocaust was wrong even if everyone were brainwashed into thinking it right.

1. This is a very interesting summary of the ...Chris. This is a very interesting summary of the census results for Dorset. I don't need to tell you the difficulties with interpreting the census data, because of possible bias in the census design meaning respondents are reflecting their identity not beliefs, the person completing the form may not reflect the views of their household and because the non-religious have complex ways of reflecting their beliefs. With respect to this last point the Pew Forum have a nice piece of research in the U.S. (http://www.pewforum.org/Not-all-nonbelievers-call-themselves-atheists.aspxhttp://www.pewforum.org/Not-all-nonbelievers-call-themselves-atheists.aspx) which looks at the self identification of 'non-believers', this shows the diversity of identification, and if replicated in the UK, goes some way to explaining the difference between the Census and British Social Attitudes Survey results.
