Welcome to Dorset Humanists
CANCELLED - Short Talks: Is everything really getting worse or should we be optimistic?
When: Wednesday, 20 June 2018, 7:30 pm - NOW Cancelled (at 17th June 2018)!
Why Cancelled?: We regret to announce that our 'Short Talks' on books by Professor Steven Pinker has been cancelled this week. This event was due to take place on Wednesday 20th June at 7.30pm at the Green House Hotel but owing to a mistake in our scheduling the venue is unavailable. We apologise to you for any disappointment or inconvenience caused. We will reschedule the Pinker talks as soon as our programme allows.
Where: Green House Hotel, 4 Grove Road · Bournemouth BH1 3AX
What: David Warden and Phil Butcher will introduce two books by Steven Pinker, the Canadian-American cognitive psychologist.
Phil's talk is based loosely on SP's "The Better Angels of our Nature" and on his TED talk on "The Surprising Decline in Violence" which he gave while preparing the book.
David will talk about "Enlightenment Now" in which SP writes about universal human nature, humanism, the threat from authoritarian populism, religious fundamentalism and radicalism of the left and right, but overall his optimism for the future of humanity.
As usual, we would like to cover the venue costs by requesting a (voluntary) contribution of about £2 or 3 please on the night.
Phil Butcher
