Welcome to Dorset Humanists

Dorset Humanists is a welcoming group for humanists, atheists and agnostics who seek to live ethical and fulfilling lives on the basis of reason and humanity. We meet in Bournemouth for informative and enjoyable presentations, debates and discussions on a wide range of subjects including ethics, science, religion, philosophy, politics, our environment and much more. We also organise regular social events. This website [January 2019] does not include our Short Talks or Walks - see https://www.meetup.com/Dorset-Humanists/ instead.

The Good Delusion: What’s The Closest We Can Get to Objective Ethics? A talk by Alex O'Connor

Saturday 13th April 2.00pm

Moordown Community Centre, Coronation Avenue, Bournemouth BH9 1TB

In this brand new talk for Dorset Humanists, Alex J. O'Connor offers a means to ground ethics in a way that allows us to determine what people should and shouldn’t do as a matter of fact, whilst dispensing with terms like ‘good’ and ‘bad.’ The concept of good may be delusory, but ethics does not have to be.

Alex is the owner of the Cosmic Skeptic Blog and YouTube channel. He is an ex-Catholic, atheist, science enthusiast and an advocate for political and educational secularism. His YouTube channel currently has more than 240,000 subscribers and he is a first year student at the University of Oxford, reading theology and philosophy.
